It was an absolute joy to celebrate the official opening of the new Dementia-friendly Alton centre at Edgar Hall, which will transform dementia support services for those living locally. Made possible by National Lottery Funding, the team is now able to offer a five day programme of activities and 'tea and chat' sessions, plus specific activities for those with an early onset diagnosis.
Home-based activities are also now available for those unable to physically attend Edgar Hall or the sister site at Alton Community Centre. This is a first for any dementia support organisation in Hampshire and should bring enormous benefits to those living with a dementia diagnosis.
Dementia Friendly Alton are sharing the building with Alton Men's Shed - true community partnership in action!
My thanks to Karen and the team for getting the project off the ground.
